Studio Ghibli’s revered 1997 film, Princess Mononoke, has undergone a meticulous 4K restoration and is set to captivate audiences once more as it returns to cinemas. This restoration, initiated over a decade ago, was made possible by the studio’s diligent preservation of the original 35mm negatives, allowing for high-quality 4K scans that faithfully align with director Hayao Miyazaki’s original vision.
The re-release marks the film’s debut in IMAX theatres, offering viewers an unparalleled visual experience. The 4K restoration will be showcased exclusively in IMAX cinemas, with screenings available in both the original Japanese language with subtitles and the English dubbed version.
To commemorate this event, GKIDS has unveiled two new posters, one highlighting San’s iconic mask and another depicting San alongside her wolf mother, Moro, in the forest.
Princess Mononoke is renowned for its profound environmental themes and has significantly influenced the art of anime. This 4K re-release offers both longtime fans and new audiences an opportunity to experience the film’s rich storytelling and stunning visuals on the grand IMAX screen.
