Music Tenses: the Smell of Summer

Music tenses is an experimental series where we make creative poetry or prose from titles of some of the new music released in the past week from a lineup of Black artistes. Experience it. Read the poetry and listen to the songs that inspire it.

I wanted to feel Euphoria again,

so I took the road to Gbagada Express.

Do you know the way?

I asked Kwaku the Traveller.

The man seated next to him

claims he is the Son of Jacob,

I sit Outside, reminiscing.

The weather smells of summer;

It’s almost dry like

the harmattan back home.

I looked up to the sun

and told her to Hold that Heat.

In case I wasn’t going to come through,

I told her, Please do not lean.

In case the method I promised fails,

I told her, please design a Plan B.
