5 African authors have made it to the longlist for the 2024 Dublin Literary Award. We are so proud of these authors and their remarkable works!
Dublin Literary Award honors excellence in world literature since 1996. Presented annually, the Award is one of the most significant literature prizes in the world, worth €100,000 for a single work of fiction in original English or translated into English. If the winning book is an English translation, the author receives €75,000 and the translator, €25,000.
The longlist features 70 books nominated by 80 libraries from 35 countries around the world. The African authors who made it to the longlist are:
Abubakar Adam Ibrahim – When We Were Fireflies (Nigeria)
Sharon Dodua Otoo – Ada’s Realm (Ghana)
Nana Kwame Adjei-Brenyah – Chain-Gang All-Stars (Ghana)
Chidi Ebere – Now I Am Here (Nigeria)
Mia Couto – The Drinker of Horizons (Mozambique)
You might notice that many of these books appeared in Brittle Paper‘s list of 100 Notable African Books of 2023 as well.
The competition looks intense and we hope that the above 5 African authors make it to the shortlist as well. This year’s judges are Irenosen Okojie, Anton Hur, Chris Morash, Daniel Medin, Ingunn Snaedal, and Lucy Collins.
Congrats to the longlisted authors! Check out the full longlist here.
