Absolute Poetry, a creative organization promoting the heritage of Nigerian poetry and creative arts, is set to host the maiden edition of the Women in Arts, Film, and Fashion Convention (WAFFCon). This landmark event is a vibrant celebration of creativity, innovation, and identity, spotlighting the contributions of women across Africa’s creative industries, particularly in arts, film, and fashion.

With the theme “Northern Lights,” this inaugural edition centers on women from Northern Nigeria, creatives whose stories, designs, and voices have long illuminated their communities, and created lasting cultural legacies.

WAFFCon is designed to bridge representation gaps, champion cultural innovation, and provide a nurturing space for emerging talents. The convention will feature a rich blend of exhibitions, film screenings, runway shows, and a panel session, each carefully curated to elevate the work of women creatives across various fields.

Speaking on the convention, the convener, Jonathan Onipe reveals the grand aim behind the convention “We’re not just hosting a convention but building a new narrative, one where women creatives are recognised as the innovators, educators, and entrepreneurs they’ve always been.” He said.

WAFFCon 2025 will take place on Saturday, April 26 at Exhibition Pavilion Centre p, Garki, Abuja. Tickets are now available via https://selar.com/823fhi with discounts for students.

In a cultural landscape that often sidelines women’s contributions, WAFFCon stands as an intentional reimagining of the creative space, one where women’s work is not only seen, but deeply valued and given the accolades it deserves.
