Tems Wins at 2025 Grammy Awards with Best African Music Performance Win

At the 2025 Grammy Awards held on February 2 at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, Nigerian singer Tems clinched the Best African Music Performance award for her song “Love Me JeJe.” This track creatively reimagines Seyi Sodimu’s classic of the same name, blending contemporary R&B with traditional African rhythms.

Tems faced strong competition in this category, with nominees including Yemi Alade’s “Tomorrow,” Asake & Wizkid’s “MMS,” Chris Brown featuring Davido & Lojay’s “Sensational,” and Burna Boy’s “Higher.”

This win marks another significant milestone in Tems’ burgeoning career. She first gained international recognition with her feature on Wizkid’s 2020 hit “Essence,” which earned a Grammy nomination. In 2023, she secured her first Grammy award for Best Melodic Rap Performance for her collaboration on Future’s “Wait for U.”

The 2025 Grammy Awards celebrated a diverse array of musical talents. Beyoncé made history by winning her first Album of the Year award for “Cowboy Carter,” becoming the first Black woman to do so in the 21st century. Kendrick Lamar was the night’s biggest winner, taking home five awards, including Record and Song of the Year for “Not Like Us.”

Tems’ achievement underscores the growing global influence of African music and highlights the exceptional talent emerging from the continent.
