Prime Video to Launch its First Unscripted African Original, LOL: Last One Laughing Naija, this July

Prime Video has announced its first unscripted African Original, LOL: Last One Laughing Naija, which will launch on July 14th, 2023. The series, hosted by Nigeria’s king of comedy, Basketmouth, will feature 10 of Nigeria’s best comedy and entertainment stars competing to be the last one laughing in a six-hour comedy showdown.

The series is based on Prime Video’s global smash-hit comedy franchise, which has been adapted in over 20 countries and territories worldwide, including Canada, Australia, Mexico, Brazil, and South Africa. The Nigerian version will follow the same format as the original: the comedians will be locked in a house for six hours, with only one rule: if they laugh, they lose. The last comedian who stays in the house without laughing will win the grand prize of 40M NGN, which they can donate to a local charity of their choice.

The series will showcase the diverse and hilarious talents of Nigeria’s top-tier comedy acts: Okey Bakassi, Acapella, Mr Funny aka Sabinus, KieKie, Buchi, Dat Warri Girl, Taaooma, Senator, IGoSave, and Gandoki. The comedians will use every trick in the book to make each other laugh, from costumes and props to pranks and surprises. They will also have to deal with the interventions of Basketmouth and his special guests, who can hand out yellow and red cards to penalize or eliminate the comedians.

The series promises to deliver authentic and unpredictable humor, as well as a showcase of Nigerian culture and creativity. Audiences can expect to enjoy the hilarious antics of the comedians and root for their favorites on social media. The series will also have a charitable aspect, as the winner will get to support a worthy cause with their prize money.

LOL: Last One Laughing Naija is a six-part series that will stream two episodes back-to-back each week over a three-week period from July 14th -28th, 2023. The series will be available on Prime Video in over 240 countries and territories worldwide. It is produced by Amazon Studios in collaboration with Nigeria’s LiveSpot360 Productions.
