Music tenses is an experimental series where we make creative poetry or prose from titles of some of the new music released in the past week from a lineup of Black artistes. Experience it. Read the poetry and listen to the songs that inspire it.

Let’s talk about books,

say the B.I.B.L.E for instance.

Maybe it’ll teach you

to Treat Me better, to

buy me diamond rings—

and gold chains to

adorn my Neck and Wrist.

We really just want to be Free.

Maybe we could start our journey,

moving from London street,

down to Timbuktu avenue; or

maybe find a basketball court,

and form a Full Court Press?

There are many paths

to the City of Gods.

We have tried many, and

now we’re Right on track

to a Lifetime in paradise,

Listen to the songs mentioned in this edition of Music Tenses
