What do you do when the person you love makes themselves invisible — not because they stopped caring, but because they’re ashamed of who they’ve become? That’s one of the questions at the centre of Love and a Thousand Sheges.

Produced by LeinaD Mo Creations in collaboration with Immersia by Anthill and directed by Tobiloba Idowu (OGISO), the production is a contemporary musical theatre piece set in a suburban community in South West Nigeria. Through drama, live music, and choreography, it follows four characters navigating love, vulnerability, and the difficult, necessary work of choosing each other when the odds are not in their favour.
Ayokunnu returns from Abuja defeated after months of job hunting with nothing to show for it. Ashamed, he hides from Segilola — the woman who has been waiting for him, the one he loves but feels unworthy of. When they finally face each other, what begins as confrontation becomes something more fragile and more honest — and slowly, carefully, they begin to rebuild what fear almost destroyed. But just as love begins to flow again, an opportunity arrives that could change Segilola’s life — and Ayokunnu’s fear of losing her threatens to cost him exactly that.
On the other side of the story, Akinwale is a successful businessman who has spent years building wealth and keeping love at a careful distance — ever since his fiancée walked away at the altar and took his willingness to be vulnerable with her. Morenikeji is a young widow and mother who has survived life’s harshest seasons and is now slowly, deliberately rebuilding on her own terms. When circumstance brings them together, neither of them is prepared for what they find in each other and they must decide if it is worth the risk of being broken again.

Rather than treating romance as a straightforward happily-ever-after, Love and a Thousand Sheges leans into the complications that come with it — the pride, the fear, the sacrifice, the grief — and asks why we keep choosing love anyway.
Written by Timileyin Okunlola, the production stars Oreofe Adenigba, Tobiloba Idowu, Esther Okodugha, Yusuf Atoyebi, and Precious Onyekwelibe.
