Five Years On: When Will Mo Abudu’s Netflix Adaptation of ‘The Secret Lives of Baba Segi’s Wives’ Be Released?

In June 2020, Netflix announced a multi-title partnership with Nigerian producer Mo Abudu’s EbonyLife Media, aiming to bring African stories to a global audience. This collaboration included plans to adapt notable Nigerian literary works, such as Lola Shoneyin’s The Secret Lives of Baba Segi’s Wives and Wole Soyinka’s Death and the King’s Horseman, into original series and films.

As of February 2025, nearly five years since the partnership’s inception, several projects have been successfully released under this collaboration. In May 2022, the limited series Blood Sisters premiered on Netflix, receiving acclaim for its storytelling and production quality.  Following this, in June 2024, Òlòtūré: The Journey, a sequel to the 2019 film Òlòtūré, was released as a three-part limited series, further showcasing the depth of Nigerian narratives.

However, specific details regarding the release of The Secret Lives of Baba Segi’s Wives adaptation remain undisclosed. While the project was part of the initial announcement, Netflix and EbonyLife Media have not provided official updates on its production status or anticipated release date.

The entertainment industry often experiences shifts in project timelines due to various factors, including production challenges, casting, and strategic planning. Given the success of previous collaborations between Netflix and EbonyLife Media, audiences can remain optimistic about the eventual release of The Secret Lives of Baba Segi’s Wives. In the meantime, viewers are encouraged to explore other offerings from this partnership, such as Blood Sisters and Òlòtūré: The Journey, which are currently available for streaming on Netflix.
