Zero Gravity Management, a prominent film and television production and management company, has recently signed Nigerian filmmaker Editi Effiong. The signing comes after Effiong’s debut feature film, “The Black Book,” made waves on Netflix as the most-viewed English-language African film.
Released in September 2023, “The Black Book” quickly climbed the ranks on Netflix, debuting at No. 3 on the platform and securing a spot in the Top 10 in over 69 countries. The gripping revenge thriller centers around Paul Edima (played by Richard Mofe-Damijo), a bereaved deacon who takes justice into his own hands when his son is framed for kidnapping. The film follows his fight against a corrupt police gang to absolve his son.
Effiong wore multiple hats for “The Black Book”, serving as the writer, director, and producer. Despite a modest budget of $1 million, the film resonated with audiences worldwide, showcasing Effiong’s talent and storytelling prowess.
Effiong’s journey in the film industry began when he founded Anakle Films in 2018. The company’s mission is to champion the next generation of African narratives on the silver screen. Netflix recognized this vision and acquired Anakle Films’ first two theatrical releases, “Up North” and “The Setup.”
Beyond filmmaking, Effiong is a creative entrepreneur with interests in advertising, technology, and business. He founded Anakle Labs, a technology company focused on solutions for financial services and telecoms industries. Additionally, he played a pivotal role in digital communications and marketing for organizations such as Wikipedia, Globacom, Diageo, Access Bank, Sterling Bank, PZ, Reckitt Benkiser, Oando, and the British Council.
Effiong’s commitment extends to non-profit endeavors in Nigeria, including funding clean water projects and establishing computer education labs for over 1000 children from low-income families.
With his recent signing to Zero Gravity Management, Editi Effiong is poised for even greater success. Hollywood recognizes his talent, and audiences worldwide eagerly await his next cinematic masterpiece.
