Burna Boy Nominated for Seven BET Hip Hop Awards

Nigerian singer and songwriter Burna Boy has received seven nominations for the 2023 BET Hip Hop Awards, making him one of the most nominated artists this year. He is nominated for Best International Act, Best Collaboration, Best Featured Verse, Best Hip Hop Video, Song of the Year, Album of the Year and Hustler of the Year.

Burna Boy, whose real name is Damini Ogulu, is no stranger to the BET Awards. He has won the Best International Act category three times in a row, in 2019, 2021 and 2023. He is also the first African artist to win a Grammy for Best Global Music Album for his 2022 album Love, Damini.The 30-year-old star has been praised for his fusion of Afrobeat, dancehall, reggae and hip hop genres. He has collaborated with international artists such as Ed Sheeran, Stormzy, Sam Smith, Beyoncé and Chris Martin. His latest album Love, Damini features guest appearances from Naughty by Nature, Sauti Sol, Youssou N’Dour and Diddy.Burna Boy will face stiff competition from other nominees in his categories. Cardi B and 21 Savage lead the pack with 12 nominations each, followed by Drake with nine nominations. Other contenders include DJ Khaled, J. Cole, Megan Thee Stallion, Kendrick Lamar and Jay-Z.The 2023 BET Hip Hop Awards will air on October 10 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on BET. The show will be hosted by comedian DC Young Fly and feature performances from some of the hottest names in hip hop. Fans can vote for their favorite artists online at BET.com until October 3.
