In honor of Global Mental Health Awareness Month, Witsprouts is set to host a book reading doubling as a launch event for the release of “Love Grows Stronger in Death,” an anthology curated by Tope Akintayo and edited by Basit Jamiu and Ibrahim Babatunde Ibrahim, featuring stories by 15 emerging African writers, each delving into the complexities of love, life, and the enduring human spirit.
Scheduled to happen at the Victoria Island, Lagos store of Nigeria’s premier bookstore, Roving Heights, on the 24th of May 24, 2024, attendees will have the opportunity to hear excerpts from poignant stories that explore unexplored affections, missed opportunities, and the resilience of the human spirit in the face of loss. Contributing authors to watch out for are Obinna Inogbo, Mustapha Enesi, Chinonso Nze, and Enit’ayanfe Ayosojumi Akinsanya.
A panel discussion themed “Mental Health Care in the Face of Personal Loss” will also happen. Moderated by Mayowa Fagbure, this thought-provoking panel discussion will delve into cross-generational approaches to mental health care. The esteemed panelists include two of the contributing authors to the Love Grows Stronger in Death anthology as well as clinical psychologist Oluwatomilayo Awodoyin. As the lead clinical psychologist at Mentally Aware Nigeria, Awodoyin brings invaluable insights into mental health support.
