Pharrell Williams, the multi-talented musician and producer, made his debut as the creative director of Louis Vuitton menswear on Tuesday, June 20, 2023. The show, which took place at the Pont Neuf in Paris, featured 74 looks inspired by camouflage print, suits with shorts, and pearl embellishments. Williams also surprised the audience with a new song from his rap duo Clipse, featuring Pusha T, and a performance with his longtime collaborator Jay-Z.
The show attracted a star-studded front row, including Beyoncé, Zendaya, Kim Kardashian, Rihanna, A$AP Rocky, Jared Leto, Naomi Campbell, Megan Thee Stallion, Lenny Kravitz, Willow and Jaden Smith, Kelly Rowland, Maluma, and Anitta. Many of them wore outfits from Williams’ collection or other Louis Vuitton pieces.
Williams, who succeeded the late Virgil Abloh as the head of Louis Vuitton menswear in February 2023, said he was honored to take on the role and continue Abloh’s legacy. He told The New York Times that he was “chosen” by Abloh to carry on his vision and that he felt “love at first sight” when he saw the collection.
Williams also said he designed the collection from the perspective of a consumer and a fan of Louis Vuitton. He said he wanted to create clothes that were “comfortable” and “fun” and that reflected his own style and personality.
The show was widely praised by critics and fans alike for its creativity, diversity, and energy. Williams received a standing ovation at the end of the show and hugged his wife Helen Lasichanh and his son Rocket. He also thanked his team and the guests for their support.
The collection will be available in Louis Vuitton stores and online in January 2024.
