The Moveee-In #1 — Ahh, Finesse

A happy new week to you!

Welcome to the maiden issue of The Moveee’s weekly newsletter, The Moveee-In. Consider this newsletter not just a regular newsletter but as a weekly dose of different shades of Black creative prowess. The first of its kind. We’ll dive deep into everything creative in each issue, from music to filmmaking, culinary art, vlogging and blogging, photography, painting, poetry, coding, and everything in between.

And we’re taking you with us. But only if you’ve subscribed for free here.

Our hearts and prayers go out to the people of Ukraine. Nobody wants war, but when two colossal elephants fight, we say in Africa, it’s the grass beneath that feels the effect. As we prepare for The Moveee-in, it’s been challenging to find content without somehow bumping into blue and yellow with a tone of violence attached to them or without something horrible being Put-in there. Therefore, we join the world in saying no to war.

TELL THE WORLD WHAT YOU SEE

Let’s begin with these heart-wrenching images from the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict. A “Say No To War” collection was launched by DepositPhotos and VistaCreate, as Russia continued its Ukraine invasion. They’re free to download and use. They want the world to see them, in their hope, in despair, in their resonating resilience and togetherness. War is one of the biggest manifestations of reality, but how the Ukrainians are pushing through it with the courage to smile and try may be the kind of motivation you need for your week. There was a smiling soldier in the picture cluster; see if you can find him.

GOD OF PENCIL-VANIA

We’ve been explorers on The Gram this week, and if you’re one for pencils and paper on a celestial level, Arinze is probably a god in this pencilled Olympus. He’s caught our eye again and again with his stunning artwork and the thoughts he provokes with pencils! He has an upcoming exhibition in Philadelphia, and he gave us a peek into what to expect. We’re reeling to see the content of the whole collection!

DOULA AND ISIME

Does Douala sound familiar to you? Like Guatemala? Because that’s where Nancy Isime is right now shooting for a movie titled “Silent Storm.” While much hasn’t been disclosed yet by the award-winning TV host of The Nancy Isime Show about the project, she hints at discovering an author within herself. Likely, there’ll soon be a Nancy Isime book. What do you think she’d name the book?

From The Jailer, came V

As you must have discovered, Asa is back! After a long streak of mainstream silence that left many Gen Z wondering, “Who’s Asa?” she’s broken out of her jail of mainstream silence. Her star-studded album V offers a new and evolved Asa. From the fine boy in the Nike and a sensational team up with the Grammy Award-winning Starboy, she gives us Good Times, which could very well be the new friend’s loyalty anthem, tagging the song along with The Cavemen. Asa’s album promises to have you swimming in her Ocean. Asa has aged well, and her music hits deeper and deeper now. From all possible signs, she’s planning to take 2022 by storm.

ALL THAT TALK ABOUT VAGABONDS!

“A world as vivid and varied as the city [of Lagos] itself.” – Harper’s Bazaar

The above quote is one of the numerous praises for Eloghosa Osunde’s debut novel, Vagabonds! The novel is set to hit Nigeria in May this year. The novel tells the stories of characters, haunted and defiant, navigating danger, demons, and love, all in a bid to lead true lives in the hustle and bustle of Lagos. You can order it in the USA and the UK. The Nigerian wait is two months away. More than 80 days to go, sigh.

The eyes that have seen the Ocean can’t be satisfied with a mere lagoon.

  • In a drawing by kojopee_pencil, we stumbled upon a crying child with charcoal and graphite running down her nose. It’s all in the eyes, the emotion.

  • Skibii goes international with Tory Lanez on his Banging hit, Baddest boy. They called this one the US remix. It just keeps getting badder 🔥
  • Davido joins Idris Elba, koffee, Moelogo and others to launch the official music from Gran Turismo 7. They called it Vroom. 🏎️
