Congolese sensation Fally Ipupa is marking two decades of musical excellence with a grand dual-album strategy that honors his roots while pushing boundaries. The first volume, ‘XX,’ drops tomorrow, April 17, focusing on an urban, global Afropop sound that features heavy-hitters like Angélique Kidjo and Joé Dwèt Filé.
This will be followed in June by ‘XX Delirium,’ a 100% Rumba project that sees Ipupa returning to the genre that first catapulted him to fame with his debut, ‘Droit Chemin.’ “This project is for all the other African artists who couldn’t do big concerts in Europe,” Fally noted, referencing his upcoming double-header at the Stade de France in May, where 160,000 fans are expected over two nights.
Ipupa’s longevity is a testament to his ability to “remix” culture—blending the traditional Congolese rumba of legends like Josky Kiambukuta with modern street-ready beats. As he celebrates 20 years, ‘The Eagle’ remains not just a star, but a cultural ambassador, proving that African music is an evolving, living organism that stays relevant by never standing still.
