Nigerian singer-songwriter Adekunle Gold is set to unveil his sixth studio album, FUJI, in collaboration with Spotify Africa in a landmark Lagos event announced ahead of its October release.

The album, FUJI, is scheduled to drop on October 3, 2025, with pre-save campaigns already underway via Spotify. To mark the release, Adekunle Gold has lined up an immersive experience in Lagos, dubbed “FUJI Revival,” supported by Spotify in its capacity as a platform partner and curator of the musical narrative.

Insiders say the event will feature exclusive performances, listening sessions, spotlights on collaborators, and cultural activations connecting the sonic direction of FUJI to its deep Nigerian roots.

According to promotional disclosures, FUJI is a long-maturing project that channels Adekunle Gold’s interest in traditional Yoruba musical elements, especially the eponymous genre “Fuji” (which historically draws on Yoruba percussion, percussion ensembles, call-and-response tradition, and social narration). It is being framed as the most introspective and culturally anchored album of his career, a decade-plus evolution from his earlier Afropop, highlife, and fusion works.

The title signals his artistic intention: not to abandon modern Afrobeats and pop sensibilities, but to integrate them more richly with indigenous forms — preserving heritage while pushing forward creatively.

Spotify’s role is more than promotional. As a co-presenter, it will furnish:

  • Curated listening zones where fans can experience album cuts in immersive audio setups
  • Behind-the-scenes content, such as artist interviews, production breakdowns, and visual storytelling
  • Playlist and editorial support, ensuring FUJI features in key Spotify Afro/world music playlists across Africa and globally
  • Live integrations, from stage lighting, visual design, and experiential booths that tie back to Spotify’s brand aesthetics

This move aligns with Spotify’s broader push into African music ecosystems, recognising the value of root-driven narratives and community engagement.

Spotify has previously hosted high-profile events in Lagos, including the Spotify Wrapped Party 2023, held at The Palms, Lekki, where global and local stars converged to celebrate streaming milestones. Artists like Adekunle Gold and Davido lit up the night with performances. That event is fondly remembered as a fusion of fan energy, brand presence, and musical showcase, which Spotify is clearly leaning on as it prepares the FUJI release.

Adekunle Gold’s FUJI project marks a deliberate pivot: not just another album, but a culturally loaded reassertion of identity, merging ancestral Yoruba musical forms with contemporary Afrobeats sensibilities. Backed by Spotify Africa, the Lagos premiere stands to be more than a listening party; it could be a redefining moment in the Nigerian music landscape.
