Highly anticipated documentary Madu is set for global premiere at the prestigious Santa Barbara International Film Festival on February 7, 2024 ahead of its release across the world on Disney+.

Madu captures the inspiring journey of Anthony Madu, a 12-year-old dancer’s remarkable transition from Nigeria to England, his pursuit of dreams and challenges faced along the way. At the heart of the film is Anthony’s 2020 viral video which flaunts his outstanding dance moves in the rain, which ultimately secured him a scholarship at the prestigious Elmhurst Ballet School in the United Kingdom.

Directed by Matt Ogens (Oscar-nominated director of Audible) and Kachi Benson, Madu explores Anthony’s personal narrative, highlighting his struggles with belonging and acceptance in a new environment. Throughout the documentary, the filmmaker shows commitment to projecting Anthony’s story while fostering cultural understanding. 

Kachi Benson, known for his groundbreaking work in virtual reality storytelling, was instrumental to bringing Anthony’s story to life on the screen. He makes waves as the first Nigerian filmmaker to adopt VR technology for storytelling, imbuing Madu with a unique perspective, and facilitating a powerful and culturally rich narrative that connects with audiences across the globe.
