Background

My passion for rap music propelled me to pursue a career in the music industry. From a young age, I was drawn to the genre and had a natural talent for it. As I ventured into singing, I was able to channel my struggles and experiences into my music.

Early on in my career, I encountered resistance from my parents, who did not give their consent for me to pursue music. This friction compelled me to leave home to focus fully on my craft. Although they did not initially provide a reason for their objection, they have since given their approval. Looking back, I realise their reluctance was borne out of concern that my musical pursuits would distract me from my education.

As a newcomer to the industry, I began to share my content on social media platforms. As my work gained traction, I continued to produce and release music. One of the highlights of my career was being reposted by Davido and various prominent blogs. This exposure led to my freestyles going viral on social media. My ability to freestyle is a natural talent, and I decided to take it to the streets to showcase my abilities.

My life has been a journey full of ups and downs, and this tumultuous experience inspires me to create music that resonates with others. There are many aspects of my story that I wish to share with my audience through my music.

Navigating the Nigerian Rap Scene

Navigating the rap scene in Nigeria can be a battle, but as a creative, I’ve learned to adapt. In order to produce quality music, I taught myself how to record and partnered with other up-and-coming producers. As an independent artist, I’ve honed my social media skills and put in the work to build a dedicated fan base that grows with me. Balancing passion and profit can be tricky, but thankfully, I’ve been able to make a living off my craft through live performances. While financial obstacles still pose a challenge, I’m taking things one step at a time and grateful for the journey.

Most Rewarding Moment

As I reflect on my journey in the music industry, there are many moments that stand out as particularly rewarding. However, there is one that has stuck with me above all others: my very first show. The feeling of elation and wonder that overtook me as I took the stage and the crowd sang my song back to me word for word was indescribable. It was a moment of validation, a confirmation that the path I had chosen was the right one. In that instant, I knew that all the late nights spent writing and rehearsing and all the sacrifices made in pursuit of my passion were worth it. And so I continue on, chasing that feeling and striving to make my mark in the world of music.

Future Prospects

My prospects include dropping my album this year, going on a tour, and collaborating with international acts.

To the aspiring young creatives in the industry, I would advise you to stay true to yourselves. Don’t rush the process and end up with regrets. Take your time to study your craft, learn from other people’s mistakes, and make your own. It’s crucial to grow organically and let your creativity flourish naturally. Trust in your abilities, work hard, and success will come in due time. ∎
